MOVE IT 2010 was another success for SDI. Our workshops proved extremely popular and completely sold out! On the Maowam Freestyle Stage Levon Desilva from Kelly Chandlers won the event on the Friday and "Remix" from Kirsten Wheelers came 1st on the Saturday. SDI are very proud of you well done! Also on the Saturday the Main Stage hosted "Unity", Levon and "Sizzle" from Kelly Chandlers school. They performed a show case on behalf of Street Dance International.
SDI AGM: Our 2010 event was held at the Blackbird Leys Leisure Centre in Oxford. It was a great day with our professional meetin and array of Workshops for teachers and pupils with some fantastic teachers. The workshops started at 11am with an Electric Boogie session with Marc Cameron, followed at 12.15pm by Street Dance 'Presentation' session with Kelly Chandler, followed by a Hip Hop session with Ishe from Nemesis. The last workshop of the day is a session with one of the stars from the forthcoming Streetdance 3D movie, Kofi Julius. He is also a member of Boy Blue and you will recognise him from many music videos and shows.
2010 IDO Championship, the European Championships Hip Hop, Breakdance & Electric Boogie.
This year’s event was held in Amsterdam from 10th to 13th June. Over 2700 dancers from 25 countries competed in the various sections and showed us all what Europe had to offer! SDI took over 150 English dancers to represent their country and they certainly all did us proud!
I don’t know where to begin but our fabulous England team made more finals than we ever have before!
The hip hop was very commercial but it was fabulous to watch. The England dancers represented us very well resulting in Kada MARSHALL (KC's) placing 13th in Junior Girls, Cherelle FROST (Dance Vybz) placed 4th and Isuara THOMAS (KC's) 12th in Adult girls. 7 of our England girls were called back into the next round of this group - Well done ladies! All the girl’s solo groups had well over 100 dancers in each!
For the boys Levon DA SILVA (KC’s) placed 6th in Juniors and in the adults Marc CAMERON was 1st, 3rd place was Kofi MINGO and 8th Dumisani LUHANA (Dance Vybz). The guys also danced amazingly and their musicality definitely won over the judges!
In the hip hop pairs England also placed 5th in the adult section. Well done again to Marc CAMERON and Dumisani LUHANA.
Breaking was also very different at the Europeans than we normally face here in the UK. It was much more aggressive and the standard was amazing! Never the less England still did really well! 3 of our dancers were called back to battle and again did England proud! In the Junior section we had Georgia POWELL (Class) who battled her way through to the finals against some very big and scary competition! She ended up top girl by a mile and placed 4th over- all in the competition! So proud of her!! In the adult section, the boys also did fantastically with Ashley ROWAN in 5th place and Rio Naim LOUINES in 8th!
It was in the Electric Boogie sections where England really shone! In the solos, we had Kelan RYAN (Class) in 2nd and Tony HEIRS in 8th place in the children’s section.
In the junior section we had all 10 of our qualified dancers representing and they did a fantastic job!! It was such a difficult section with such variety and all the England dancers (including the 2 lovely girls, Georgia & Kada). When it came to results, it was clear the judges were impressed too with Levon DA SILVA (KC's) in 1st, 2nd Kieran LAI (Kayzar), 3rd Darren SYMES (Shake), 4th Solomon THOMAS-ASANTE (Dance Vybz), 5th Kyron ANTHONY (KC's) and 8th Daniel FULLARD! AMAZING!!
In the adult section last year’s champion held on to his title! Well done to Marc CAMERON! Also, Dumisani LUHANA and Joe GREEN (On Point) in joint 7th!
In electric Boogie Pairs we did almost as well with fabulous results all round! In the children’s section we had Ryan KELAN / Dylan DE CAIRES (Class) in 4th place and Tony HEIRS / Billy HARTWELL (On Point) in 8th. In the junior section the amazing Kyron ANTHONY / Levon DA SILVA from KC's won, Solomon THOMAS-ASANTE / Jake BULL (Dance Vybz) were 2nd and Adrian NADGHI / Benjamin HIKIN were 4th. The adults also dominated with Marc CAMERON / Dumisani LUHANA winning and Gemma PITHERS / Hazel PITHERS in 4th!
The Netherlands, Slovenia, Czech Republic, Denmark and England had the most winners overall. The competition had an amazing atmosphere and although it was very different to our UK events, most people seemed to love it!
The support for England this year was phenomenal and I would like to thank each and every one of the teachers, dancers and parents involved. I was a truly proud to be English and think everyone involved felt the same!
Well done England!

ENGLAND WIN 6 GOLD MEDALS AND END TOP NATION AT THE WORLD HIP HOP CHAMPIONSHIPS 2009
At the IDO World HipHop Championships held in Kalisz Poland at the end of September the results confirmed England had truly arrived in the International Hip hop scene. With over 3000 dancers and national teams from 43 countries worldwide the England team which had only 40 competitors were the top gold medal winners, winning 6 golds. Even though England had won gold medals at previous World Championships with winners including Flawless and Unity the largest haul prior to this year was one gold medal at each World Championships.
Marc Cameron of Milton Keynes had a wonderful week winning 3 gold medals including solo and pairs events but his crew Omen put the icing on the cake by winning the Adult Streetdance small groups event. Over the past years England has had finalists in this event and Omen proved that through Marcs clever choreography and ideas it was possible for an England group to win this event.
Levon Da Silva from Kelly Chandlers in Oxford was the winner of the Junior Electric Boogie (Popping event) and added the title to his two previous European Championships an outstanding achievement. Steff Masseys Micky Riddington Smith & Edward Jones won the pairs event. Our 6th gold medallist was young Benjamin Hukin also from Steff Masseys who having entered his first international event, won the under 12 boys solo event.
Marc Camerons partner in winning the duos event was Dumisani Luhana. Mark and Dumisani were joined by Tyrone Williams, Jamie Mitchell and Pritesh Patel in the winning group Omen.
The IDO World Championships are the Only Official Recognised World Streetdance Championships and like all other IDO events dancers can only be selected to represent their country through their national teams. IDO England are the governing body of all the dance styles run throughout England. SDI are the Streetdance, Electric Boogie, & Breakdance representatives. Next year the European Hiphop Championships are being held in Amsterdam between 10-13 June and the selection for the England team will be on 30th and 31st January at Oxford. The World Championships will be held in Bochum, Germany, Sep 29, 2010 - Oct 3, 2010 and the selection will be held on the weekend 8th and 9th May at the K2, Crawley.
All the selections are run by the SDI under SDI rules except the England team selections which are run under IDO rules. All SDI events are open to all dancers and schools and there is no registration fee. Ticket prices are kept to a minimum and a major part of SDI profits are given back to the dancers in sponsorships for attending the 2 major International Championships.
Any school or dancer wishing to take part in any of the selections or other events the SDI promote or any teacher wishing to become a member should contact the SDI via the SDI website www.streetdanceInternational.com.

STREETS AHEAD IV May 30th, 2010 was a huge success, SDI would like to thank all those that helped make this possible, for the great atmosphere back stage and for the stunning performances. Click here for more information on this event.
STREETS AHEAD III was a fantastic show and we would like to thank all of the dedicated schools who came to Her Majesties Theatre in London and wowed the audience from start to finish! The show included street dancers as young as 5 from all over the UK. Each school clearly worked hard to create a 9 minute piece and although they were all very different, the dancers enthusiasm, talent and passion was clear! With special guest compare, Jon Boydon (star of West End currently in We Will Rock You starring as Galileo) as well as fantastic performances from Unity, 2007 & 8 SDI UK & IDO World Champions and Peridot, 2009 SDI UK Champions. Everyone involved had a fantastic time and we are looking forward to next years event already !
